about us

our mission is clear:

To provide cost-effective patient screening solutions that transform the landscape of healthcare accessibility in underserved communities.

At Med-e-Screen, we’re dedicated to addressing two critical issues facing South Africa: inaccessible, insufficient, and unaffordable healthcare, alongside mass unemployment among doctors and nurses.

Each year, 17 million people prematurely die of preventative chronic diseases that could have been detected, screened and treated early.1

The Med-e-Screen BackPack represents a ground-breaking advancement in medical diagnostics, offering easy mobile testing capabilities for a diverse range of diseases. With an impressive accuracy rate of 99.8% and results delivered within just 20 minutes, the BackPack facilitates prompt and reliable testing, enabling early detection, intervention and prevention.

The Product

our product:

The reliability of the Med-e-Screen’s BackPack is supported by over four years of testing and
more than 100,000 successful tests conducted, affirming its technology and accuracy.

as indicators of disease burden, it tests and records the following:

Urine dipsticks are simple diagnostic tools used to detect various health conditions by analyzing urine samples. They provide quick insights into parameters like pH, glucose, protein, and blood levels, aiding in the screening and monitoring of urinary tract and metabolic disorders.

Measuring temperature during a medical exam is crucial for identifying fever, a common symptom of infection and inflammation. It helps in diagnosing illnesses, monitoring patient health, and guiding appropriate interventions, such as administering medications or seeking further medical evaluation.

Point-of-care blood testing provides comprehensive insights into various health markers, including glucose, cholesterol, liver and kidney function, and electrolyte levels, among others. This multifaceted approach enables rapid assessment, aiding in early detection and management of diverse medical conditions for improved patient outcomes.

HIV testing involves detecting antibodies or antigens produced by the body in response to HIV infection. Rapid tests provide results within minutes, offering confidentiality and convenience. Early detection is crucial for timely intervention, access to treatment, and prevention of HIV transmission.

Waist-hip circumference ratio is a valuable indicator of body fat distribution and overall health. Measuring the waist and hip circumferences provides insights into abdominal obesity, associated with increased health risks such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Antenatal screening involves a series of tests during pregnancy to assess the health of both the mother and the fetus. These tests include blood tests, ultrasounds, and genetic screenings, aiming to identify any potential risks or complications and ensure optimal prenatal care.

Mental health testing encompasses various assessments to evaluate psychological well-being and identify potential disorders. These tests range from self-reported questionnaires to clinical interviews and neuropsychological assessments, aiding in diagnosis, treatment planning, and monitoring of mental health conditions for effective intervention.

Measuring height during a medical evaluation is vital for assessing growth, tracking changes over time, and determining body mass index (BMI). It provides crucial information about skeletal health, aids in diagnosing conditions like osteoporosis, and guides personalized healthcare interventions for optimal well-being.

Glucose testing during a medical exam is essential for diagnosing and managing diabetes and monitoring blood sugar levels. It helps in early detection of prediabetes and diabetes-related complications, enabling timely interventions to maintain glycemic control and prevent long-term health issues.

Measuring blood pressure during a medical exam is crucial for assessing cardiovascular health and detecting hypertension, a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Regular monitoring allows early intervention through lifestyle changes or medication to prevent serious complications.

TB screening during a medical evaluation is paramount for early detection and treatment of tuberculosis, a contagious bacterial infection affecting the lungs and other organs. Prompt identification of TB cases helps prevent transmission, reduce morbidity, and improve patient outcomes through timely interventions and treatment.

Measuring BMI during a medical evaluation provides insight into overall health and guides personalized interventions. It assesses weight relative to height, aiding in identifying obesity-related health risks and guiding strategies for weight management, promoting healthier lifestyles and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.

Measuring weight during a medical assessment is crucial for evaluating overall health and detecting changes over time. It helps monitor fluctuations, assesses nutritional status, and guides interventions for weight management, promoting optimal health and reducing the risk of obesity-related complications.

Determining the risk of strokes during a medical exam involves assessing various factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, smoking habits, and medical history. Additionally, evaluating lifestyle factors like diet and physical activity helps identify individuals at higher risk, enabling preventive measures and interventions to mitigate stroke risk.

Determining the risk of a heart attack during a medical exam involves evaluating factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol levels, smoking status, diabetes, and family history. Additional assessments of lifestyle factors like diet and exercise aid in stratifying individuals’ risk and guiding preventive strategies for optimal heart health.

Measuring hypertension during a medical exam is crucial for assessing cardiovascular health and detecting high blood pressure, a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Timely identification enables interventions like lifestyle changes or medications to manage blood pressure and reduce cardiovascular risks.

A spirometer can be used to detect if your lungs are working correctly. It measures the amount of air you can breathe out in one second. These measurements will be compared with a normal result for someone of your age, height and sex, which will help show if your lungs aren’t working properly. This will assist in detecting if you have asthma or COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Med-e-screen captures all the data electronically and uploads the results for analysis. The data is analysed using our proprietary Microsoft Azure cloud platform.

The algorithm recommends certain patients for immediate attention by a physician as well as for non-urgent appointments. The main result is a colour indicator (Green, orange or red) that indicates the urgency with which the patient should see a physician.

These results are seamlessly communicated with the patient via an SMS, and helps the patient decide on the next steps.
